Biography

A shepherd's calling on a continental scale

Rev. Dr. Jean Libom Li Likeng is a Cameroonian pastor and teacher whose ministry has grown from the local congregation to the leadership of the African evangelical Church. In May 2025, at the 13th General Assembly of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) in Nairobi, Kenya, he was elected President, having served as the association's Vice President from 2020 to 2025.

In Cameroon he serves as President of the Alliance of Evangelicals in Cameroon and as Moderator of the Église Presbytérienne Camerounaise. His wider service includes leading the Cameroon National Prayer Breakfast, representing the African Forum on Religion and Government (AFREG), and chairing the Cameroon Bible Society. Earlier in his ministry he served as National Secretary of the GBEEEC within the IFES student movement.

Formation and study

He holds a Master of Advanced Studies in Theology from the Faculté de Théologie Protestante de Yaoundé (2000), and received an Honorary Doctorate (D.H.C.) from Promise Christian University in California, USA (2016). For his service he has been named an Officer of the National Order of Valour in Cameroon.

Ministry calling

At the heart of his leadership is a conviction he has voiced plainly: the Church cannot simply claim that the future of Christianity lies in Africa — it must live worthy of that trust. “We must work to ensure that what we say is real. We cannot brag and not be acting,” he has said of the responsibility carried by the evangelical Church in Africa. That same conviction shapes Oncle Libom: a daily, practical ministry of encouragement, teaching, and formation.

Vision for the Church: a leadership of teamwork and shared burden — “When everyone contributes, then everyone achieves more.”
